The authorities of the Canton Grisons draw a positive conclusion of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum WEF in Davos. They are pleased that the 50th annual meeting was peaceful. Once again, the Canton Grisons and Davos as the host provided ideal conditions for the annual meeting.

Again this year, numerous heads of state and government representatives as well as a large number of personalities from business, politics, and science traveled to Davos. All seven members of the Swiss Federal Council took the opportunity for talks within this national and international environment. At the same time, various members of the Government of the Canton Grisons met with various representatives from the business community as well as a number of representatives of other cantons and the Swiss Confederation.

Based on the ongoing security situation since 2015, heightened control and information-gathering activities were put in place. In total, about 120 internationally protected persons requiring security measures attended the annual meeting of the WEF. US president Donald J. Trump was among this group of people. Cooperation between the various security forces was smooth and professional, all measures proved effective, and there were no security-related incidents. All demonstrations in Davos as well as the winter hike from Landquart to Davos were peaceful and took place without major incidents. The excellent cooperation between the participating municipalities and the cantonal authorities deserves special emphasis.

The Canton Grisons and the alpine city of Davos underscored their importance as a convention venue while further promoting Switzerland’s reputation as a safe and peaceful location for dialogue and exchange of views. Cantonal Councilor Marcus Caduff underscored the economic significance of the meeting for Davos and the Canton Grisons: “According to a study of the University of St. Gallen, the WEF generates an annual added-value of around 60 million Swiss Francs just in Davos”.

The annual meeting of the WEF in Davos is possible only with the support of numerous partners and the populace. Peter Peyer, Cantonal Councilor and head of the Department for Justice, Health and Safety: “In the name of the WEF Committee for the Government of the Canton Grisons I would like to thank all the cantons, the participating cities as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein for their generous contribution to the security mission surrounding the WEF.” A special thanks also goes to the police forces that contributed to the successful implementation of the annual meeting either in Davos or in their own cantons. Finally, this thanks extends to all forces of the armed forces, and the border guard.
